SEOUL, Dec. 29 (Yonhap) -- In the film world of Busan, 2022 was a year location filming of movies· films stably recovered to a level before COVID-19 and a year performances of Busan production companies stood out.
According to Busan Film Commission on Thursday, 138 works of movie and films (25 movies, 113 films, filming days 735 days) were supported by the Busan Film Commission in 2022.
This is close to the number of filmes supported last year, which was the highest number in the history.
Works that were highly praised for its popular appeal and creativity stand out this year.
Apple tv+'s original series "Pachinko," which was filmed for 6 days at 10 places including Yeongdo, is the most worthy of notice.
"Pachinko" was globally acclaimed, winning the grand prize in the Breakthrough Series Long Form category, listed on AFI's best TV dramas of the year, etc.
"Decision to Leave" was filmed at 23 places including Busan Cinema Complex, Geumjeongsan, and Korea Maritime & Ocean University.
Movie "Hunt," which garnered 4.35 million audiences, and "The Roundup," the first 10-million movie after COVID-19, had their main scenes filmed in Busan.
In the second half, tvN drama "Little Women" filmed at Busan Fish Market Association and JTBC drama series "Reborn Rich," which was issued for filming at old Busan mayor's mansion, were supported by the Busan Film Commission.
Works supported by Busan also played remarkable parts in the international stage.
Movie "Jeong Soon" (director Jung Ji-hye) is a winning work of 2019 Busan Mentoring Project for Rookie Writer in Film Planning and Development and the 2021 Busan Production Company's Post-Production Support Project.
"Jeong Soon" won grand prize at Jeonju International Film Festival, was invited to the rookie director category for San Sebastian International Film Festival, and received two prizes at Rome Film Fest.
With the growth of web contents industry, Busan production companies are jumping onto web contents productions across platforms and contents.
A noteworthy production company is Detail Studio.
Detail Studio produced web-drama "Jotso Jotso Jotso corporation" (translated) series and released them on YouTube. The series was recognized for its planning and production abilities when it was invited to the Cannes International Series Festival.
Based on their know-hows in the short-form contents production, they are lately attracting the viewers with short film "Gone movie" and K-public official satirical web-drama "Mr.Kang."
"The Unpredictable Detective" was released on local leading online stream services (Wavve, Tving, Seezn, Watcha, etc.), playing as the pathfinder of developing inroads into distribution of local movies and contents.
Busan Film Comission plans to secure new growth drivers in movie and film industries through the construction of infrastructure.
They will renew fifth and sixth floor of film industry center into VIC-LAB and hold various programs.
VR stage has been built inside the Busan Cinema Complex, and research for LED VR multi-side video usage is currently underway.
Busan Sound Station has retained sound database and picked out 31 voice actors who are needed in the sound production; they also plan to produce voice actor platform.
Kim Sung-kyu, operation director of Busan Film Commission, said, "2022 was the year works supported by Busan have begun to show some progress," adding, "This can be seen as a result of convergence of contents such as empowerment of infrastructure and creators' abilities."
