SEOUL, Feb. 27 (Yonhap) -- Cosmetics from LG Household & Health Care were presented as a state gift to Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who made his first visit to South Korea in 21 years, the cosmetics maker said on Friday.
According to the presidential office, Lula received several gifts on last week, including a biography of labor activist Jeon Tae-il, a traditional “Hojakdo” tiger-and-magpie painting, a Korean national football team uniform and a set of men’s cosmetics.
The men’s cosmetic gift was the “O HUI Meister For Men Fresh 3-Piece Special Set” from LG H&H’s de-aging solution beauty brand O HUI. The set consists of a skin toner, lotion and cleansing foam.
Lula’s preference for K-beauty became known after he said in a public speech in December that “the reason I look handsome is thanks to Korean cosmetics.”
The “O HUI Meister For Men Fresh” line contains gold-label balsamic vinegar ingredients sourced from Modena, Italy, crafted through a traditional method over 25 years, the company said. The product offers an immediate cooling sensation without greasiness, making it popular among men sensitive to texture.
The skincare line is designed to help manage oxidative stress, a major cause of skin aging, and includes betaine and panthenol in the toner and lotion to provide moisturizing and soothing effects. Suitable for men with combination to oily skin, the product can be used comfortably by consumers of various ages, including Lula, who was born in 1945.
LG H&H’s cosmetics have recently drawn attention after being selected as gifts for visiting dignitaries. During last year’s APEC summit in Gyeongju, the company presented products from The History of Whoo’s Hwanyu line to world leaders.
State gifts are seen as meaningful gestures as well as valuable opportunities to introduce products and companies to overseas consumers.
An LG H&H official said the latest selection could serve as an important stepping stone for expanding into the Latin American market, which remains in its early stages.
“We will strive to promote LG H&H brands and products, including O HUI, to Brazil’s population of over 200 million and establish ourselves as a science-driven beauty and wellness company representing Korea,” the official said.
