Cat·penguins perform as scene-stealers in S. Korean movies

SEOUL, Jan. 18 (Yonhap) -- The animal characters, such as a cat and penguins, have been drawing attention as “scene-stealers” in Korean movies in the beginning of 2022.

In the movie "Special Cargo," a professional special-cargo driver Eun-ha(Park So-dam)’s cat "Podong” has gained popularity. Podong is an abandoned cat rescued in Nampo-dong by Eun-ha, who works in Baekgang Industries in Busan.

Podong showed a great harmony with Eun-ha, drawing admiration from the cat owners among the audience. Park So-dam also received a lot of attention by posting her selfie face-to-face with Podong on her personal social media page.

It is known that Podong is not actually abandoned, but was recruited by a company that specializes in managing animal actors.

A group of penguins appear in "The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure," which is ahead of the release on Jan. 26.

Mak-yi(Lee Kwang-soo), who was born in a Japanese ship and always dreams of becoming a king of the pirates with betrayal after joining Hae-rang(Han Hyo-joo)’s group of pirates, depicts humorous scenes with penguins, who he met by chance on the way to discover treasures.

Lee Kwang-soo said in a recent press conference, “I had not experienced a lot, but it was the best combination so far.” The main leads Han Hyo-joo and Kang Ha-neul also considered the scene of Lee Kwang-soo and penguins as the best scene.

This scene was completed with Computer Graphics(CG), not the real penguins. Lee Kwang-soo mentioned, “I imagined (the penguins) while acting, but I was surprised by how it showed more diverse actions and facial expressions than I had expected.
