SEOUL, Nov. 7 (Yonhap) -- Korean jazz singer Woong San has released a reinterpretation of a classic Korean art song.
According to her label Universal Music, Woong San’s new single “Like the Wind That Meets the Lotus” was released at noon on Friday.
The original piece, based on a poem of the same name by poet Seo Jeong-ju, was composed by Kim Joo-won as a traditional Korean art song (gagok). In her latest work, Woong San reimagines the song through her unique jazz sensibility, expressing the sentiment of autumn with lyrical warmth. The recording also features guitarist Park Yoon-woo.
Following the single’s release, Woong San will hold a concert “All That Jazz” at the National Theater of Korea’s Haeoreum Grand Theater on Dec. 5.
At the concert, she will perform her own compositions, selections from her albums, and beloved jazz and pop repertoire. Traditional musicians Lee Jae-ha on geomungo and Bang Ji-won on janggu will appear as special guests to collaborate with her on stage.
