SEOUL, September 20 (Yonhap) -- The Korean American actor Raymond Lee stars as the main character in the American channel NBC's new show "Quantum Leap," which aired its first episode on September 19.
Channel NBC introduced the back story of casting Raymond Lee, saying that it is very rare to cast an Asian American actor as the main character of a main TV network show.
"Quantum Leap" is a sequel to the sci-fi show of the same name that aired on NBC from 1989 to 1993.
The show depicts the story of a physicist, Professor Ben Song (played by Raymond Lee), who goes on an adventure traveling through time in a quantum leap.
Professor Ben is set as a character who swaps in to someone else's body while traveling through time and solving different cases.
Martin Gero, the producer of the show, explained that the original main character was a white man, but the sequel needed someone who could transcend gender and race to carry out diverse characters, and that Raymond Lee was the perfect match.
Raymond Lee said that he knew that his Korean background and appearance could one day be his strength and that he feels responsibility in this role as an Asian American.
Raymond Lee majored in theater in college and gained acting experience on shows like "Modern Family," "Scandal," and "Here and Now." He played Logan Lee, the lieutenant, in the movie "Top Gun: Maverick," the biggest box office hit of this year.
