NEW YORK, Oct. 27 (Yonhap) -- The city of world culture, New York has gone crazy for Netflix Korean series “Squid Game.”
Over 3 thousand people applied for 80 seats in “2021 Korea Tour with Squid Games in NY” which took place in Manhattan by Korea Tourism Organization in New York on the 26th.
The participants gathered up in front of The Metropolitan Museum of Art wearing the same green tracksuits as the players in the series and learned more about Korean cultures looking around the art museum’s Korean gallery, Korean Cultural Center New York and Korea Town.
At “KOREAN ACTORS 200” on display in the cultural center, they posed in front of the photo of actor Lee Jung-jae who played the main role in the series.
There were participants licking dalgona candies like Sung Gi-hoon (Lee Jung-jae) in the series or heating up a needle with a lighter to carefully break out the shape.
“I could pass by licking it for 8 minutes,” said Chris (26) who managed to break out an umbrella shape with less than a minute left.
Many participants picked “Red Light Green Light” as their favorite game from “Squid Game.” “Ttakji,” the bait-game to lure the people into the survival game, was quite popular as well.
“It was so fun. I really enjoyed these old school games,” said Charles who received a round-trip flight ticket to Korea as the final winner.
“Korea is rapidly growing in culture, media, and so many other industries. Because Korea is innovating creating innovation, other countries are looking at Korea,” added Charles.
In two days earlier held “2021 Korean Festival” at the Union Square by KAAGNY (Korean American Association of Greater New York), 10~30 thousand people swarmed in to enjoy Korean cultures such as dalgona challenge and ssireum.
