SEOUL, Feb. 27 (Yonhap) -- Global cosmetics original development manufacturer (ODM) Cosmax said Friday it is accelerating its expansion into Southwest Asia and the Middle East after presenting life cycle-based wellness beauty solutions in Indonesia.
The company said it plans to strengthen its premium product portfolio based on innovative ingredients and formulation technologies and target markets with climates similar to Indonesia.
Cosmax Indonesia announced it successfully held the sixth “COSMAX Innovation Conference 2026” in Jakarta on Feb. 13.
Cosmax has hosted the annual innovation conference for local clients and officials from Indonesia’s National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BPOM), introducing the latest trends and technologies in the beauty and wellness sectors.
This year’s event was attended by around 250 participants from about 70 local client companies, along with Cosmax Group officials, including Jung Min-kyung, head of Cosmax Indonesia, and Kwon Soon-gu, head of global marketing at Cosmax Bio. Dian Putri Anggraweni, director of standardization for traditional medicines, health supplements and cosmetics at BPOM, was also present.
Under the theme “Wellness and Harmonious Living: Balance of Science, Senses and Self-care,” the conference introduced beauty solutions tailored to each stage of life. The approach aims to go beyond pursuing outward beauty to strengthen and maintain the skin’s fundamental health from a long-term perspective.
The company showcased its differentiated active ingredients and formulation technologies centered on key industry trends such as “skin longevity” and “active aging.”
Cosmax has established a sensory evaluation lab at its Research & Innovation Center in Indonesia to strengthen localized research by scientifically analyzing product texture, spreadability and fragrance preferences among local consumers. At the conference, the company also presented case studies based on research into Indonesia’s sun care market.
The company said it plans to leverage the sensory lab to closely analyze preferred formulations among local consumers and propose premium solutions that offer advantages not only in efficacy but also in emotional appeal.
In particular, Cosmax aims to reinforce its research and development capabilities by using Indonesia as a strategic base to expand into markets in Southwest Asia and the Middle East, including India, which share similar tropical climates.
“Cosmax Indonesia is enhancing its climate-tailored R&D capabilities based on its expertise in halal product manufacturing,” Jung said. “We will expand into neighboring countries by introducing premium products that target not only price competitiveness and quality but also the emotional preferences of local consumers.”
Meanwhile, Indonesia is set to mandate halal certification for all beauty products distributed in the country starting Oct. 17. Cosmax Indonesia has been producing all of its products in compliance with halal standards since obtaining Indonesian halal certification in 2016, the company said.
