SEOUL, Jan. 17 (Yonhap) – The theme song of the 2023 Gangneung World Choir Games (WCG) sung by MayTree has hit 100 million views with its MV uploaded on YouTube, according to the city of Gangneung.
Gangneung city released the MV, starring a renowned South Korean quintet a cappella group MayTree, to promote the upcoming WCG that will return to Korea in June 2023. With a one-year delay, the world’s largest international choir competition will be held in Gangneung, after the first competition held in Busan in 2022, from June 3 to 13.
The video captured the various attractions of Gangeung, including the Gyeongpo Ecological Storage Site, Ojukheon House – a place that displays the lifestyles and architectural styles of the early Joseon Dynasty –, Jungang Market, and the Jumunjin Lighthouse Village, giving a glimpse of the beautiful sceneries.
MayTree appearing in the video is a cappella group that won two gold medals in the pop and jazz categories at the 8th World Choir Games that was held in Riga of Latvia in 2014. The group has many fans not only domestically but also globally.
“Besides the video we produced with MayTree, there are several other promotional contents of the Gangneung WCG that have been uploaded on our official website and YouTube channel,” said an official from Gangneung Province said Tuesday. “We ask for your continuous interest and support for the upcoming 12th Gangneung World Choir Games.”
The 2023 Gangnueng World Choir Games will be meeting both national and international participants with so much to see and enjoy, including the awe-inspiring opening and closing ceremonies, the world-class choir competition, national parades, collaboration concerts, as well as stages held by K-pop singers.
