SEOUL, Sept. 7 (Yonhap) -- Actor Yoon Si-yoon will take on the role of Andrew Kim Taegon, the first Korean-born Catholic priest.
The movie, tentatively titled “Birth” in English, has been confirmed to go under production to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Andrew Kim Taegon’s birth, according to the production company on Tuesday.
In addition to Yoon Si-yoon, actors Ahn Sung-ki, Lee Moon-sik, Shin Jung-geun and Nam Da-reum will appear.
The movie, centered around Saint Andrew Kim Taegon's adventures in the modern Joseon Dynasty, will feature scenes of the Opium Wars, the priest's study in Macau, and his entry through Manchuria.
The film, which is made to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Andrew Kim Taegon’s birth, is being produced with the full support of the Catholic Church in Korea,the production company said.
Park Heung-sik, director of "Twenty Again" (2015), wrote and will be directing the film. The cast will go into filming in November and the movie will be released in November next year.
