SEOUL, Aug. 22 (Yonhap) -- In celebration of Chuseok, the National Heritage Administration and the National Heritage Promotion Agency announced on the 22nd that they will host the '2024 Hangawi Hanbottari' event on September 6 at the Korea House in Jung-gu, Seoul.
The event will feature an academic conference on the second floor of Chwiseon Hall, where discussions will center around the significance and value of major Korean holidays as intangible cultural heritage. The conference will examine the cultural importance of the five major holidays—Seollal, Daeboreum, Hansik, Dano, Chuseok, and Dongji—that were designated as National Intangible Cultural Heritage last year. Presentations will also cover topics such as the festive traditions of the Joseon Dynasty royal court and the Korean perception of time during holidays.
In the afternoon, a variety of hands-on activities and performances will take place. On the fourth floor of Chwiseon Hall, participants can engage in a songpyeon-making experience, a traditional Chuseok delicacy. The Haerin Hall lobby will feature an exhibition showcasing various traditional holiday foods such as tteokguk, five-grain rice, surichitteok, songpyeon, and red bean porridge.
At 4:00 PM, cultural psychologist Dr. Kim Jung-woon will hold a storytelling concert at the Folk Theater, where he will share diverse stories about Chuseok under the theme "Chuseok Holiday - The Power to Move the Heart." The evening will conclude with performances starting at 7:30 PM, featuring Ha Yoon-joo, a recipient of the Intangible Cultural Heritage for Gagok, the performance troupe The Gwangdae, the fusion gugak band AUX, and the National Heritage Promotion Agency Art Troupe.
The event is free, and attendees can register in advance through Naver.
