SEOUL, Aug. 3 (Yonhap) -- The Joseon Royal Tombs Festival, a cultural event held at the UNESCO World Heritage-listed royal tombs of the Joseon Dynasty, will take place in October, organizers said Monday.

 

The Royal Palaces and Tombs Center of the Korea Heritage Service and the Korea Heritage Agency said the festival will run from Oct. 17-25, following an opening ceremony on Oct. 16.

 

The festival will feature a variety of performances and hands-on programs highlighting the history and value of the Joseon royal tombs at such sites as Donggureung in Guri, Seolleung and Jeongneung in Seoul, Yungneung and Geolleung in Hwaseong, and Jangneung in Gimpo.

The two organizations are also recruiting young supporters, called "Neung-irang," to assist with this year's event.

 

The supporters will help guide visitors and assist with on-site operations during the opening ceremony and major festival events. They will also produce short-form videos promoting the festival.

 

A total of 40 supporters will be selected. Applications are open to people aged 19 to 39, including foreign nationals who can communicate in Korean.

 

Supporters will receive free admission to the 12 royal tombs participating in the festival during the event period. Upon completing their activities, they will be awarded a certificate of completion, and their volunteer hours will be recognized through the 1365 Volunteer Portal.
