SEOUL, May 15 (Yonhap) -- The 17th International Busan Content Market (BCM) will kick off in late May to showcase various Korean content products and services to the global realm, its organizing committee announced Monday.
More than 1,000 broadcasting and video-related companies from over 50 countries are expected to participate in the annual event. The BCM will run May 31 through June 2 at Bexco, Busan.
Launched in 2007, the BCM has become one of Busan's representative events that introduces Korean content, ranging from televised shows to webtoons, animated films, video games and YouTube creators.
The global rise of over-the-top (OTT) market and its platforms helped the BCM earn its place as an integral channel to promote K-content to the international audience.
Global-hit K-drama "Extraordinary Attorney Woo” was first showcased in the BCM last year. This year, the organizers will invite the production crew of the hit series “Pale Moon,” starring actress Kim Seo-hyung. Pale Moon has recently been selected to be screened at Canneseries.
Several Korean web series, produced by local production houses in Busan, will also be screened during the event.
The BCM will also hold a conference for officials on diverse agendas, including the adaptation of artificial intelligence and the convergence of diverse sectors in the current video industry.
The BCM will also open a Latin American conference session. Jose G. Castro, the Costa Rica Film Commissioner, has been invited to speak during the session in regard to the emerging K-content markets in Costa Rica and Brazil.
