SEOUL, Nov. 5 (Yonhap) -- The Cultural Heritage Administration announced Friday that it will appoint actress Park Jin-hee as the goodwill ambassador to introduce Korea's beautiful natural heritage and inform the public on the need to preserve and manage them.
"Park Jin-hee has carried out various activities that showed her interest in climate change and preservation of natural heritage," an official from the Cultural Heritage Administration explained.
Park will receive a letter of appointment at 2 p.m. in an event commemorating the designation of the Gingko Tree, located near Jangsudong, Incheon, as a natural monument.
The Ginkgo Tree in Jangsu-dong, Incheon, was designated as a natural monument in February, and is estimated to be over 800 years old. The tree has become a guardian for the surrounding village and is characterized by its drooping branches like willows. It is 28.2 meters high and 9.1 meters in circumference.
