SEOUL, June 19 (Yonhap) -- The 21st Wonju Disability Rights Film Festival, titled "Communication," concluded successfully, the city of Wonju said Friday.
Hosted by the Wonju Center for Independent Living, this year's festival was held under the slogan, "You Never Know Until You Try."
About 300 people, including people with imparities, volunteers and local residents, took part in the event and shared a time of understanding and empathy regarding the rights of the impaired.
Various films dealing with human rights issues were screened during the festival, providing participants with an opportunity to better understand one another's lives and communicate through cinema.
Wonju city said the event helped broaden social awareness of the equality and reaffirm the value of an inclusive community.
"It was a meaningful occasion that expanded social consensus on the rights of the impaired population and reminded us of the importance of living together as a community through the medium of film," a city official said.
"We hope the festival will encourage people to reflect on disability rights and serve as a foundation for building a more inclusive local community," the official added.
