ANDONG, SOUTH KOREA, April 21 (Yonhap) -- French contemporary artists Frederic Leglise and Timothee Blandin completed a three-month artist residency in the historic Hahoe Folk Village in Andong, southeastern South Korea, as part of a Korea-France cultural exchange program marking the 140th anniversary of diplomatic ties.

Hosted by the Rakkojae Cultural Foundation and the French Embassy in Seoul, the program invited the artists to live and work in a traditional hanok, where they created artworks inspired by Korean architecture, nature and daily life.

The artists said the slower rhythm of life, minimalist hanok spaces and close contact with nature influenced both their lifestyles and creative processes.

Blandin combined digital imagery with acrylic painting to portray surreal landscapes, while Leglise created portraits reflecting emotions and impressions formed during his stay in Korea.

The residency program is expected to continue annually, inviting French artists to experience Korean cultural heritage through long-term stays in traditional settings.
