SEOUL, Apr. 14 (Yonhap) -- Five South Korean films will be screened at the upcoming 13th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF), which will be held for a week from April 22.
Director July Jung’s drama feature film “Next Sohee” and director Shuming He’s comedy film “Ajooma,” jointly created in Korea and Singapore, will be put on the Chinese big screen along with several “Special-B&R Asian Vision Lenovo Special Presentation.” In the meantime, the 2010 drama film “Poetry,” directed by Lee Chang-dong, will be screened as one of the legendary films listed in the category of “Restored Classics.”
In addition, director Hong Sang-soo’s “Walk Up” and “In the Water” have put their titles down in BJIFF’s “Dimension” category. There were no Korean films chosen for the main competition category, however.
Over the past few years, seven Korean films, including “Hotel by the River” (directed by Hong Sang-soo), were screened at this international film festival in 2019, followed by five films, including “Kim Ji-young: Born 1982” (Kim Do-young), in 2020; and three films, including “Introduction” (Hong Sang-soo), in 2021. Only two Korean films, including “Oasis” (Lee Chang-dong), were screened in last year’s BJIFF.
