SEOUL, Aug. 18 (Yonhap) --

Singer and entertainer Kim Jong-kook, 49, announced Monday that he is getting married.

Posting on his fan community earlier in the day, Kim wrote, “I am getting married. This year marks my 30th debut anniversary, and instead of making an album that fans have been asking for, I made my other half.”

He continued, “Please congratulate and support me. Though it is quite late, how fortunate it is that I can finally take this step. I will do my best to live well.”

Kim did not disclose details about his bride-to-be. He only noted that “the wedding will be held soon in a relatively small setting with family, relatives and a few acquaintances.”

Kim debuted in 1995 as a member of the group Turbo, which rose to fame with hit songs such as “Reminiscence,” “White Love” and “Twist King.”

In 2001, he launched his solo career with hits including “One Man,” “Walking in Place” and “Lovable.” In particular, his third studio album, featuring “Lovable,” swept year-end grand prizes from all three major TV broadcasters in 2005.

Beyond singing, Kim became a household name through television variety shows such as “X-Man,” “Family Outing,” “Running Man” and “My Little Old Boy.” In 2020, he won the grand prize at the SBS Entertainment Awards for his variety show work.

“I had long thought that someday I would write and share such news myself, but preparing these words has made me feel far more nervous and emotional than I imagined,” he said. “Thanks to the fans who have always been a great source of strength, I am now able to get married and take on this new challenge in life. I will keep working hard and living diligently.”
