Amorepacific unveils AI-based facial aging pattern map

SEOUL, June 15 (Yonhap) -- Amorepacific has unveiled research findings identifying region-specific facial aging patterns using artificial intelligence-based skin imaging technology, the company said Monday.

 

The study was presented Friday (local time) at the ISBS World Congress 2026, held in Lyon, France.

 

The presentation, titled "AI-Driven Visual Skin Imaging Reveals Region-Specific Facial Aging Patterns in Korean Participants: Wrinkles and Hyperpigmentation," introduced a "Facial Aging Map" developed by the company's R&I Center to visualize the onset and progression pathways of facial aging based on images of Korean subjects.

 

Researchers used AI technology to align facial images according to a standardized format and extract information on wrinkles and pigmentation from different regions of the face. The data were then integrated into a single standardized facial image to visually analyze age-related aging patterns.

 

According to the company, the study is distinguished by its application of AI-based image analysis and a standardized-face composite overlay technique, enabling researchers to visualize the spatial characteristics of aging across the entire face.

The analysis showed that wrinkles and hyperpigmentation progress along different pathways. Wrinkles were found to begin around the eyes before spreading to areas undergoing greater structural and expression-related changes, while pigmentation first appeared on the cheeks and under-eye areas before extending across the face.

 

The findings allowed researchers to observe overall aging patterns that had previously been difficult to identify through assessments of individual facial regions alone.

 

Using standardized facial overlays generated by averaging data from people in the same age group, the team also visualized the sequence of aging progression in different facial regions, demonstrating the potential for developing customized skin research and evaluation methods based on specific aging characteristics.

 

The company said the study offers a new approach to skincare by focusing not only on measuring or treating aging after it occurs, but also on detecting skin changes early and enabling preventive management.

 

"This study demonstrates how Amorepacific's accumulated AI imaging technology and skin analysis capabilities can provide a more intuitive understanding of skin aging patterns through visualization," Seo Byung-hwi, chief technology officer and head of the company's R&I Center, said.

 

"It will serve as an important foundation for realizing Amorepacific's 'Holistic Longevity Solution' based on the prediction of future skin changes," he added.

 

The research was conducted using "Dr. AMORE," the company's core AI skin diagnosis technology.

 

The technology has already been incorporated into "Skin Note," a skin diagnosis service available on Amore Mall, and "My Future Skin," a predictive skin analysis service offered at Amore Yongsan City Lab.

 

The company said the technology is expected to provide customers with a new skincare experience by enabling them to predict future skin changes at an earlier stage and prepare personalized care in advance.
