SEOUL, Jan. 27 (Yonhap) – TVING's original entertainment web series ‘Comic Men (translated)’
will drop its first episode on the online streaming service on Friday.
The show boasts an unprecedented setting where an array of renowned South Korean cartoonists Lee Mal-neyon, Joo Ho-min, and Kian 84, along with television presenters Joo Woo-jae, are transferred to a universe created in cartoons.
The cast, who are thrown into an uninhabited island under unknown supervision, are obligated to act exactly in the manner drawn in the cartoon in order to escape from the island.
During the online press showcase of the show held on Friday, the four cast members recalled that the concept of the program was shrouded in secrecy and was unveiled on the first day of shooting.
Cartoonist Lee Mal-neyon, who is also known as Chim-chak man on his YouTube channel, said, “We all thought we were going on a trip to Thailand and then to Europe; however, we ended up being taken to a deserted island,” adding playfully, “At first, I actually didn’t feel that bad and was rather dumbfounded. But after exactly two months from the stay at that island, it now makes me annoyed.”
Meanwhile, Kian 84 said, “I even packed a suit to take a picture of myself traveling Europe, but the limousine that was supposed to drop us at Yeongjongdo Island instead headed to Jebudo Island,” explaining, “Even when we got on that boat, I believed that we were heading to Europe after eating that last clam noodle soup. I knew we were deceived only after they dropped us at a deserted island.”
The upcoming entertainment web series will show off multifaceted charms, including the excitement and humor of variety shows as the casts attempt to escape from the island along with the delight of observing captured chemistry between the cast members who boast years of friendship.
The chemistry between “Chimpulgi,” the three cartoonists who have long been friends of each other, and their long-time fan Joo Woo-jae will be worth watching.
The cast members will be throwing themselves into the subfreezing ocean and also entertaining themselves with various games. Above all, they are expected to share everything that only close friends can with one another.
“It is natural for a team to have more chemistry when they spend more time with one another. The screenwriters of our show are also close colleagues, which was a huge plus for us,” Producer Hwang Jae-seok said. “We look forward to showing some originality by having Joo Woo-jae, who has been on-trend these days, included in our cast members.”
The first episode of “Comic Men” will be released at 4 p.m. (KST) Friday.
