The 2021 Shinan Tulip Festival was planned to be held on mid April, however the Shinan county announced the cancellation of the festival on Feb. 25. | ▲ This image shows the tulip buds being removed by the residents While Imja-do Island, where the tulip festival would have taken place, expected many tourists and visitors, the recent wide spread of the coronavirus eventually put a hold on the festival. Still, the opening of the Imja Bridge in March is looking forward to attract a number of visitors to the island.
The Tulip Festival is Korea's representative flower festival and Imja-do island was selected as the festival's location by Korean flower specialists because of the fertile soil, abundant sunlight and the breeze from the sea on the island. The festival usually takes place on the sandy beach next to the Daekwang beach where people are invited to see millions of colorful tulips.
