SEOUL, Aug. 14 (Yonhap) -- "It’s my first time doing a romantic comedy, and at first, I was really nervous. But thanks to the director, writer, and my partner So-min (actress Jung So-min), I think I was able to blend in." (Actor Jung Hae-in)
Jung Hae-in and Jung So-min star in tvN's new romantic comedy drama Mom's Friend's Son, which premieres on the 17th.
In this drama, Jung Hae-in challenges the romantic comedy genre for the first time. At the press conference held on the 14th at the Ramada Hotel in Sindorim, Guro-gu, Seoul, he shared, "In my previous works like Something in the Rain and One Spring Night, the tone was more lyrical and dark, whereas this project has a lot of comedy."
Mom's Friend's Son tells the story of a woman who wants to change her unsatisfactory life and the son of her mom’s friend, who knows all too well about her embarrassing childhood, as they evolve into a romantic relationship.
Jung So-min plays Bae Seok-ryu, a woman who faces a crisis after a successful career and decides to reboot her life, while Jung Hae-in plays Choi Seung-hyo, a promising young architect and the son of Seok-ryu's mom's friend.
Jung Hae-in’s character is depicted as a perfect man who has it all. The title Mom's Friend's Son refers to the common saying in which a mother compares her child to a friend's successful son, often used to describe someone who seems almost perfect.
When asked if he had ever been called Mom's Friend's Son in real life, Jung Hae-in humorously replied, "I won't deny it," drawing laughter. Regarding how similar he is to his character, Choi Seung-hyo, he commented, "In my personal opinion, I’d say about 99%."
Jung So-min’s character, Bae Seok-ryu, is a project manager who decides to reboot her life after facing challenges. She noted, "Bae Seok-ryu is characterized as the 'K-eldest daughter,' and since I have a younger brother, I found a lot of aspects of Seok-ryu relatable. The heavy sense of responsibility felt by the eldest daughter was something I was very familiar with."
In the drama, both Jung Hae-in and Jung So-min even don school uniforms for flashback scenes to their high school days, attracting attention.
Jung So-min shared, "Since my late 20s, whenever I had to wear a school uniform for a role, I thought, 'This might be my last chance,' so I always tried my best. I didn’t expect to wear one again this time, so I was actually quite worried. But even though it was a bit embarrassing, I had a lot of fun during the shoot."
The 16-episode drama Mom's Friend's Son will air every Saturday and Sunday at 9:20 PM.
