SEOUL, July 13 (Yonhap) — During the reign of the Baekje Kingdom in Buyeo, Chungcheongnam-do, which was called Sabi at the time, built a city wall to protect the capital, which is now called the Sabi Doseong or Buyeo Naseong Fortress.

Archaeologists have identified the remains of the North Gate site of the city wall from the Sabi-capital period (538-660).

Researchers from the Baekje Cultural Foundation, established by Buyeo county, announced on Tuesday that it has conducted excavation surveys at 400-3 Ssangbuk-ri, Buyeo-eup, Buyeo-gun, Chungcheongnam-do to find the northern entrance facility of the Buyeo Naseong, which is believed to have been built during the Baekje period.

It is estimated that there were five gates in this city wall, and so far, two gate sites have been found in the eastern section alone.

Based on the partially exposed northern gate site, the stones are stacked up to four layers, approximately 1.2 m high. The confirmed length is 9 meters.
