SEOUL, Sept. 17 (Yonhap) -- Animated film “K-pop Demon Hunters” (KDH) has set a milestone as the first Netflix title to surpass 300 million cumulative views, the streaming giant said Wednesday.

According to Netflix’s official site Tudum, the film recorded a total of 314.2 million views as of Sept. 17, the highest figure among all Netflix films and shows released to date.

“KDH” already topped the overall Netflix chart two weeks ago and has continued to widen the gap with runner-up “Squid Game Season 1,” which has 265.2 million views.

Netflix compiles its most-watched films and shows by tallying cumulative views — calculated by dividing total viewing hours by running time — over the first 91 days of release.

“KDH” has remained on the global Top 10 list for English films for 13 consecutive weeks. During the week of Sept. 8-14 alone, it logged 22.6 million views to stay atop the weekly chart.

It ranked No. 1 in 39 countries, including the United States, Britain, Spain, Argentina, Egypt, Malaysia and Qatar.

The film follows K-pop idol group Huntrix as they battle evil spirits to save the world. Its popularity has been fueled by a hit original soundtrack that topped the Billboard chart, uniquely Korean elements woven into the narrative, and witty dialogue that has driven repeat viewing.

During the same period, fantasy historical drama “Bon Appetit, Your Majesty,” starring Lim Yoon-a and Lee Chae-min, claimed the top spot in Netflix’s non-English TV category with 6.8 million views.

The 12-part series debuted at No. 4 in its first week and gradually gained global traction, climbing to No. 1 in its fourth week. It ranked No. 1 in nine countries, mainly across Asia, including Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia and Taiwan.

The drama depicts the story of a modern Michelin three-star chef who suddenly finds himself transported to the Joseon Dynasty. As of now, eight episodes have been released.
