SEOUL, September 1 (Yonhap) -- The Naver music streaming platform "VIBE" will be releasing an audio movie, a story told via sound, "Geukdong," on September 26. Audio movies have similarities with radio dramas in the fact that they are movies made by actors' voices. However, they are differentiated by subtitles and CG effects, which make them more visually appealing.

The film "Geukdong" is a spy thriller about characters chasing an untold amount of slush funds that threaten the entire world. The movie was directed by Kwak Kyung-taek, who also directed the movies "Classified File," "Dark Figure of Crime," and more.

At the production press conference held on Thursday, director Kwak Kyung-taek talked about his new challenge, an audio movie, "There were several unexpected obstacles, such as having to distinguish the characters solely by their voices and having to breathe as if they were in an action scene, we struggled a lot." He continued, "The actors were supposed to act and bring out emotions only by thinking that the mic is the person they are talking to in the given situation, and I really appreciate that the actors made so much effort till the end."

The film will star actors Kim Kang-woo, Yoo Jae-myung, and Kwak Dong-yeon. Kim Kang-woo will be playing An Tae-jun, a consul in Russia belonging to the National Intelligence Service, Yoo Jae-myung will be playing Lee Soo-young, person in charge of slush funds in North Korea and Kwak Dong-yeon will be playing Kang Yeong-sik, the leader of the North Korean hacker group.

Kim Kang-woo said "I just roughly washed my face and got ready to go for my first shoot, and I realized that I shouldn't have taken it too easy." I thought it would have been easy because it's just my voice, but I had to maintain all the small details such as breathing and the littlest feelings while acting out the lines. I felt a lot more conscious while working on this movie. "

Yoo Jae-myung said, "I thought I was in trouble when I went for my first recording." He reminisced, "It was the first time I concentrated on my voice and I had a hard time because I thought my voice was awkward and felt like my pronunciation was bad." He said, while waving his hand "I think I gained a great skill while acting with my voice, but I don't think I can ever become a voice actor".

Kwak Dong-yeon said, "It felt like I was eating crispy sweet and sour pork in one of the most famous Chinese restaurants when I first heard the trailer." He continued, "It was delicious because it was so flavorful, chewy, crispy, and sour."

Kim Kang-woo said, "It's entertaining enough now, but I think on this scale, it would have been nice to produce it as an actual movie. There were times when I was a bit disappointed because I sweated while recording as if I was actually shooting a movie," and he ended, "As it was a new challenge, I'm sure the movie will be able to deliver a fun and new feeling to you, and asked the audience to look forward for their audio movie."
