SEOUL, Aug. 21 (Yonhap) -- Naevis, previously known as the supporting character in aespa's universe, will officially debut as a virtual artist next month, according to SM Entertainment on the 21st.
Originally introduced as a helper character who enabled the aespa members to travel between the real world and the digital realm known as "Kwangya," Naevis will now take center stage as SM's first virtual artist.
In her previous appearances, Naevis participated in aespa's third mini-album with a feature on the track "Welcome To MY World" and made a surprise performance during the group's concert in June.
Developed by SM's Virtual IP Center, Naevis is designed with the flexibility to switch between a 3D character that resembles a human and a 2D character reminiscent of animation, depending on the platform and content. The character also utilizes AI voice technology and generative AI to produce content.
Beyond her music career, Naevis will expand her intellectual property (IP) through ventures in gaming, brand collaborations, and more. SM Entertainment has also released a teaser video on their official YouTube channel, depicting Naevis' journey from the digital world to the real world. Another video showcasing her new form in the real world is set to be unveiled on the 23rd of this month.
