SEOUL, August 16 (Yonhap) --The "Geumgwanchong Tomb," the only tomb of the Silla era, where the owner of the tomb can be known, has been restored and is about to be revealed.

Gyeongju City announced on Monday that it will be opened to the public on August 16 as a "Geumgwanchong Tomb Exhibition Space," a modern exhibition space, after the Geumgwanchong Tomb, which is believed to be tomb of King Isaji and where the Silla gold crown was first discovered, has been restored and maintained.

The Geumgwanchong Tomb Preservation and Exhibition Space is as big as 576.9㎡ on the first floor in Noseo-dong. The Silla tombs has been reinterpreted in a modern way.

For the first time in the history of maintaining the ancient tombs in Korea, wooden furniture, which is the main structure of the stone tomb, has been reproduced as the actual size, inside the facility.

These include the regularly arranged wooden pillar post marks found on the stone mound floors during the re-excavation of Geumgwanchong Tomb in 2015, and the traces of the horizontal and vertical wooden pillar post marks on the outer slope.

Contrary to the results of the first investigation during the Japanese colonial period, the central chamber of the tomb was larger and taller, and has newly revealed that there was one more chamber on the outside.

In order to help children and students understand the Wooden chamber tomb with stone mound, they will also be providing eye-level customized explanations using advanced augmented reality (AR) techniques.

"We changed the design four times just so that we could preserve the remaining Geumgwanchong Tomb as much as possible," said Mayor Joo Nak-young.
