SEOUL, July 16 (Yonhap) -- "Iron Man" Robert Downey, Jr is cast in an American drama 'The Sympathizer' which Korea's one of the biggest director Park Chan-wook, best known for the movie 'Old Boy', is to be directing, Hollywood's breaking news media, Deadline, reported on the 15th (local time).
'The Sympathizer' is an adaptation of a novel about a character who once lived as a double spy but eventually settles in America after Vietnam became communized. The writer of this novel is a Vietnamese American, Viet Thanh Nguyen and the novel earned him a Pulitzer Prize in 2016.
Deadline added that in the drama, Robert Downey, Jr is said to be taking numerous roles including a congressperson, a CIA agent, a movie director and so on. His wife, Susan Downey, is also known to be taking part as a producer, too.
A Canadian actor, director and also a playwright Don McKellar will be co-directing with Park while cable television HBO will co-produce with A24, Moho Film, producers of the movie 'Minari' which had been released last December in the U.S.
