SEOUL, May 30 (Yonhap) -- An exhibition of major cultural heritages and contemporary artworks held by the Ewha Womans University Museum is coming.
The Ewha Womans University Museum announced on the 29th that it will be opening the special exhibition "Face to Face : Masterpieces from the Ewha Collection", which brings national treasures, Seoul's tangible cultural assets, and the works of contemporary artists in one place from 31st May till the 30th of December.
Among the national treasures is a "White Porcelain Jar with Grape Design in Underglaze Iron." This jar which is believed to have been made in the 18th century has a height of 53.3cm and the grapes were painted on the entire jar as if it was a canvas.
Treasures including "White Porcelain Jar with Cloud and Dragon Design in Underglaze Iron," " White porcelain jar with Plum, Bird and Bamboo Design in Underglazed Cobalt Blue," and "Gisa gyecheop (Album of Paintings of the Gathering of Elders)" will be displayed.
The "White Porcelain Jar with Cloud and Dragon Design in Underglaze Iron" is a porcelain jar that depicts clouds and dragons, while the "White porcelain jar with Plum, Bird and Bamboo Design in Underglazed Cobalt Blue," depicts plum blossoms, birds, and bamboo. Gisa Gyecheop is a collection of paintings made to commemorate the Association of Elder Statesmen (Giroso), which King Sukjong (r. 1674-1720) joined in 1719. Giroso is an organization established to honor civilian officials over the age of 70.
The "Stone Fragments from Pyeongyangseong City Wall of Goguryeo," a stone engraved with letters during the construction of the Stone Fragments from Pyeongyangseong Fortress, and "Celadon Stools with Openwork Ring Design," a relic from Goguryeo will also be revealed.
One will also be able to enjoy the artworks from Kuho Jang, Jihoon Ha, Meekyoung Shin, Koo Bohnchang, Yeseung Lee and many more.
"While looking at the cultural heritages and the contemporary art, I wish one would be able to see the beauty while also reflecting on the meaning of it," said an official from the Ewha Womans University Museum.
