SEOUL, Dec. 20 (Yonhap) -- Musical "The Phantom of the Opera" will meet fans for the first time in 13 years in Korean.
Production company snco announced on Tuesday that after the musical is held in Busan Dream theater from next March 30 to June 18, it will kick off at Charlotte Theater in Seoul beginning Next July 14.
World-class musical master Andrew Lloyed Webber's leading work "The Phantom of the Opera" was performed at West End and Broadway for over 34 years and has the record of being the longet to be performed at Broadway. Depicting a tragic love story between unknown 'Phantom' who lives in Opera theater and Christine, the musical was loved by people all over the world for countless masterpieces and fancy stage setting.
The Korean licensed version was first performed at LG Art Center in 2001. Gathering 240,000 audiences at the time, it received reviews that it played as the major contributor to the expansion of domestic musical market. The reenactment in 2009 attracted 330,000 viewers, setting a record of being the first single musical production to exceed 300,000 viewers.
After the reenactment, the musical was performed solely by original team abroad, but for the first time in 13 years, Korean actors will make the stage as the licensed stage. The musical in Korean will be performed for the first time at Busan next March and meet fans in Seoul next July.
