SEOUL, July 30 (Yonhap) -- Amid the scorching weather in South Korea, a series of "horror songs" are set to be released by K-pop singers that sends chills down the listeners' spines.
Girl group Dreamcatcher will release a special mini album titled "Summer Holiday" under an occult concept on Friday. Occult is a supernatural phenomenon that cannot be understood by humans and refers to evil spirits or magical beliefs.
In the title track, "BEcause," Dreamcatcher melts a chilling melody that sounds as if it came from an occult film.
The sound of string instruments and music boxes played through Pizzicato, a playing technique where musicians pluck strings, helped create a creepier atmosphere. The lyrics deliver a story about an obsession caused by excessive love.
In the music video, the members were surrounded by people wearing black capes and look into the camera while holding dolls, creating a horror movie-like scenes.
Singer-songwriter Ahn Ye-eun will present a horror single “Chang-gui" on August 1. This is the second "horror song" to be released following "Trumpet Creeper” released last year.
The title “Chang-gui” refers to the soul of a person who died due to being bitten by a tiger. The spirits of a Chang-gui cannot go to the afterlife and wonder around to find food for tigers.
“Ahn Ye-eun, who was always interested in shamanism, is now preparing for fun and scary work on the theme of Chang-gui, which appears in tales of the Joseon Dynasty, Ahn’s agency JMG said.
In the highlight teaser video, Ahn sits in a dark cave as her shadows move around, which adds to the creepiness of the song.
