Sunset movie festival to take place at Busan's Dadaepo Beach on Aug. 14-16

SEOUL, Aug. 13 (Yonhap) -- The fourth Dadaepo Sunset Film Festival, which allows moviegoers to enjoy films against the backdrop of a beautiful sunset, will take place from Aug. 14-16 around Dadaepo Beach in Busan, organizers said Wednesday.

 

The festival is hosted by Saha-gu District and the Dadaepo Sunset Film Festival organizing committee, with the opening ceremony scheduled for Aug. 15, National Liberation Day.

 

The opening film will be director Kim Han-min's "Hansan: Rising Dragon" (2022), which depicts Admiral Yi Sun-sin's victory at the Battle of Hansan during the 1592 Japanese invasion of Korea.

 

Also screening around sunset on a special stage at the beach are director Ryoo Seung-wan's "Smugglers" (2023) and director Kwak Kyung-taek's "Firefighters" (2024).

 

Actors Kim Gyu-ri, Kim Myung-gon, Kim In-kwon, Yoo Jae-myung, Jung Tae-woo and Choi Daniel, along with directors Kim Han-min, Yang Yun-ho, Lee Jang-ho, Lee Tae-ri and Jung Cho-shin, will attend the red-carpet event scheduled for the opening ceremony. Singers Ali and Seongri will also give special performances.

 

On Aug. 14, a day before the opening ceremony, award-winning films from the festival's short-film competition will be screened.

 

Various side events will also take place during the festival, including "Dadaepo-cha," a beachside food stall area, busking performances, a dance competition and a singing contest open to citizens.
