SEOUL, Aug. 19 (Yonhap) -- The Korean Film Council (KOFIC) said Wednesday it has begun accepting reports of ticket scalping at premium theaters in South Korea, including IMAX and Dolby Cinema.
KOFIC said it will accept reports on an ongoing basis to assess the extent of illicit ticket trading and prevent harm to moviegoers.
Reports can include posts offering scalped tickets on secondhand trading platforms or social media, as well as cases involving large-scale bookings suspected of using macros, programs that automatically repeat inputs to purchase large numbers of tickets.
Complaints from moviegoers have recently intensified following the release of Christopher Nolan's blockbuster "The Odyssey," with some IMAX tickets reportedly being resold for more than 100,000 won.
Some sellers have also been found offering more than 10 tickets for a single screening, raising suspicions that macros were used to secure the tickets.
Moviegoers wishing to file a report can send an email to justice@kofic.or.kr, attaching the movie title, theater, screening date and time, seat information and supporting materials such as ticket resale posts or message exchanges.
The KOFIC Fair Growth Center said, "The act of some scalpers making unfair profits is a serious problem that deprives moviegoers of legitimate opportunities to see films and undermines trust in the industry as a whole," urging active reporting.
The submitted materials will be used as basic data to assess the ticket-scalping situation and develop measures to eradicate the practice in the future.
