YANGYANG, South Korea, April 2 (Yonhap) -- Yangyang County in Gangwon Province said Thursday it will conduct final inspections to ensure visitor safety and establish traffic control measures ahead of the "2026 Yangyang Namdaecheon Cherry Blossom Festival," set to take place April 4-5.

On April 3, a day before the opening, the county will carry out a joint safety inspection at the Namdaecheon riverside venue with relevant agencies, including police, fire authorities, and electricity and gas officials, along with a safety advisory group.

The inspection will focus on the condition of electrical, fire and gas facilities, measures to prevent crowd-related accidents, the adequacy of safety personnel and rescue staff deployment, and whether emergency vehicle access routes are secured.

Any shortcomings identified on-site will be addressed immediately to reinforce the safety management system before the festival opens, the county said.

To ensure smooth operations and pedestrian safety during the event, vehicle access will be fully restricted from 10 a.m. on April 4 to midnight on April 5 along a section from Songi Sculpture Park to the park golf course parking lot.

Instead, four parking areas will be operated for visitors, including Songi Sculpture Park, the park golf course at Songi Sculpture Park, Namdaecheon Sports Park baseball field, and the Namdaecheon Salmon Eco Park.

This year’s festival, themed "Today, Spring Has Come," will feature a picnic zone and hands-on craft workshops, along with various experiential programs such as cherry blossom path drawing and a full moon photo zone.

Additional attractions include performances by the 22nd Infantry Division military band, a mega balloon magic show, a traveling magic show, and concerts by singers Byun Sun-hee, Song Ye-ji and Jin So-yu.

"We are making thorough preparations so that all visitors can enjoy the festival safely," a county official said. "We hope people will safely enjoy the beauty of spring along the Namdaecheon cherry blossom road."
