SEOUL, Aug. 21 (Yonhap) -- Hongcheon County in Gangwon Province will host a festival celebrating the national flower, the hibiscus, on Aug. 29 at the Hongcheon Hibiscus Arboretum, the county government said Friday.
The "2026 Hongcheon National Flower Hibiscus Festival" will be held under the theme "Seven Hibiscus Gardens in a Day at Hibiscus Wonderland."
Visitors will move around the arboretum and follow a story built around seven themes: discovery, experience, appreciation, sharing, harmony, challenge and relaxation.
At the "Hibiscus Exploration Headquarters," the starting point of the festival, visitors can receive an exploration map, participate in programs throughout the arboretum and take photos at designated photo zones.
The "Hibiscus Wonder Factory" will offer hands-on activities including decorating eco-bags and handkerchiefs and making natural mosquito repellents.
A "Hibiscus Gallery" will be set up near the forest library, featuring works by local artists centered on the hibiscus. At the "Hibiscus Secret Garden," visitors can receive hibiscus seeds and enjoy bubble and magic shows.
The "Hibiscus Golden Bell" will feature quizzes on the hibiscus, Hongcheon and patriotism, while the "Hibiscus Challenge" will offer group missions for visitors to complete together.
Dance performances will kick off the festivities before the opening ceremony, followed by street performances and magic shows throughout the day.
A tour train will also operate around the arboretum for visitors who want to explore the grounds more comfortably.
"We hope this event will give visitors a chance to reflect once again on the beauty and meaning of the hibiscus, our national flower, while creating meaningful and enjoyable memories," Hongcheon County Mayor Shin Young-jae said.
