SEOUL, April 2 (Yonhap) --

Goseong County in Gangwon Province is drawing attention as a filming location for dramas and films, strengthening its appeal as a stay-type tourist destination, officials said Thursday.

Neungpadae, known as a filming site for the "BTS Winter Package," is a scenic spot featuring honeycomb-shaped tafoni rock formations created through long-term weathering.

The site, along with Hwajinpo, the Songjiho coast and Sinjinggi basalt formations, is designated as part of the Gangwon Peace National Geopark, recognizing its geological value.

Wanggok Village, a traditional folk village designated as a national heritage site, is also a major tourist attraction. The village, known as the only place in Korea where northern-style houses are well preserved, gained attention as a filming location for the film "Dongju."

Ayajin Beach, known for its emerald-colored waters, is popular among family visitors for its clean sandy shore and unique rock formations. It has also seen an increase in younger visitors after being featured in the dramas "It’s Okay to Not Be Okay" and "Lovely Runner."

Hwamsa Temple, one of Goseong’s representative temples famous for Subawi Rock and a Maitreya Buddha statue, offers panoramic views of Goseong and nearby Sokcho from its peak. It has been used as a filming location for works such as the films "Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds" and "The Great Battle," as well as the variety show "Summer Vacation."

Cheongganjeong Pavilion, which offers scenic views of the East Sea, and the Songjiho Lake area, where a lake and the sea meet, are also gaining attention as filming sites for dramas, commercials and various video content.

The county plans to continue promoting tourism by leveraging filming locations to attract more visitors and link them with local businesses.

"Goseong has a wide range of filming locations where mountains and the sea, as well as tradition and modernity, coexist," a county official said. "We will expand tourism routes centered on these sites to promote stay-type tourism and develop content that can contribute to the local economy."
