SEOUL, Oct. 22 (Yonhap) -- Beauty company APR said Thursday it has published a study in an international academic journal showing that using a home beauty device together with cosmetics produces greater improvements in skin radiance than using cosmetics alone.
According to APR, the study, titled "Effects of Combined Use of an Electroporation (EP)-Based Home Beauty Device and Cosmetics on Skin Appearance and Condition," was published in the October issue of "Cosmetics," an international academic journal.
"Cosmetics," published by international academic publisher MDPI, is a peer-reviewed journal ranked Q1, the highest tier in evaluations of academic journals in the relevant field.
The study was conducted to assess changes in the skin resulting from the combined use of a beauty device using electroporation (EP) technology and cosmetics. EP is a technology that uses electrical stimulation to help deliver substances through the skin.
The study used Medicube's "PDRN Pink Peptide Ampoule," a beauty product from APR's beauty brand, and AGE-R's "Booster Pro Mini Plus" beauty device.
The PDRN Pink Peptide Ampoule contains PDRN derived from salmon DNA, while the Booster Pro Mini Plus is designed to help deliver active cosmetic ingredients into the skin using EP technology.
The researchers first compared skin permeability under two conditions using an artificial skin tissue model: cosmetics alone and cosmetics used together with the beauty device.
They then conducted a four-week human application test involving healthy adults. The same cosmetic product was applied to the entire face, while the beauty device was used only on the left side, allowing the researchers to compare changes in the skin on both sides.
The study found that skin permeability was significantly higher in the group that used the beauty device together with cosmetics than in the control group that used cosmetics alone in the artificial skin tissue model.
The human application test also showed significant improvements in some indicators, including skin radiance and brightness.
In particular, after four weeks of use, the rate of improvement in skin radiance was 16.4 percent on areas treated with the beauty device, higher than the 8.6 percent recorded on areas treated with cosmetics alone.
"What's significant about this study is that it comprehensively analyzed the combined effects of home beauty devices and cosmetics through both nonclinical evaluation and human application testing, while establishing scientific evidence for related research," an APR official said. "We will continue research and development based on scientific evidence to enhance the competitiveness of our products and expand the research foundation for skincare solutions that combine beauty devices and cosmetics."
