SEOUL, March 28 (Yonhap) -- As large-scale wildfires continue to cause damage in the Yeongnam region, the entertainment industry has stepped up to help with recovery efforts by donating relief funds.
Singer G-Dragon announced on Friday through his agency, Galaxy Corporation, that he would donate 300 million won for wildfire recovery and support for displaced residents.
G-Dragon, who is holding his world tour Ubermensch concert at Goyang Sports Complex on March 29-30, pledged to donate 300 million won from the concert's proceeds.
He stated, "I hope that a healing touch reaches everyone who has lost their home due to this unexpected disaster, and I sincerely wish for their recovery."
BTS’s RM and BLACKPINK’s Jennie each donated 100 million won to the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association. Additionally, the group RIIZE contributed 150 million won, while ITZY’s Yeji donated 50 million won to the same organization.
On the previous day, aespa’s Karina donated 100 million won, and rapper Jay Park contributed 70 million won to Hope Bridge.
Singer and actor Cha Eun-woo donated 100 million won to the Korean Red Cross. Jeong Dong-won donated 100 million won along with 30 million won worth of relief supplies, actor Jung Il-woo contributed 20 million won, and singer DinDin donated 10 million won to the Red Cross.
NCT’s Doyoung contributed a total of 100 million won, splitting it equally between the Community Chest of Korea (Love’s Fruit) and The Promise, a disaster relief and social welfare organization.
Actress Han Ga-in revealed through her YouTube channel that she had donated 50 million won to Hope Bridge.
Actress Yoon Yoo-sun donated 20 million won to World Vision, where she serves as an ambassador.
The donations will be used to provide emergency relief supplies, financial aid for affected residents, and psychological and emotional recovery programs.
As of 6 a.m. on Friday, the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters reported that the wildfires in Gyeongsang Province had caused 65 casualties, including 28 deaths, 9 serious injuries, and 28 minor injuries.
