SEOUL, Sept. 2 (Yonhap) -- Fourteen local brands from Jeju Island will seek to test their market appeal and develop new sales channels among consumers in the Seoul metropolitan area at a pop-up store in Seongsu-dong, Seoul.
Jeju Province and the Jeju Center for Creative Economy & Innovation said Sept. 2 that they will operate the "Jeju Local Brands × Seoul Seongsu Pop-up Store" on Sept. 5-6 at KT&G Sangsang Planet in Seongdong-gu, eastern Seoul.
Under the theme "Made on Jeju, Made of Jeju," the event will showcase a variety of brands made in Jeju and reflecting the island's distinctive character to consumers in the Seoul metropolitan area.
The organizers aim to directly gauge the market appeal of Jeju products and raise their profile in Seongsu-dong, an area known for trend-sensitive consumers and a concentration of diverse brands, while developing new sales channels.
The participating companies are 14 brands selected through document screening from 80 applicants in an open recruitment process.
They will showcase a range of Jeju products spanning food and beverages, beauty and household goods.
The pop-up store will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sept. 5 and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sept. 6.
Representatives of the participating companies will introduce their products and brands to consumers and sell them directly at the event.
Consumer responses and preferences will also be surveyed and used to improve products and strengthen brand competitiveness going forward.
Visitors will also have a chance to win prizes through hourly drawings, including shopping coupons worth up to 10,000 won and reusable bags.
Kang Ae-sook, director general of Jeju Province's Economic Vitality Bureau, said, "Seongsu-dong is a market where consumer responses can be felt most quickly and vividly. We hope this pop-up store will serve as an opportunity to confirm the growth potential of Jeju's local brands and expand new sales channels."
