SEOUL, Sept. 15 (Yonhap) -- CJ Olive Young is expanding its skin diagnosis service, previously available at its stores, to mobile devices.
Olive Young said Tuesday it will launch a mobile skin diagnosis service that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze skin conditions from smartphone photos and recommend personalized products and skin-care methods.
The service is an app-based expansion of Olive Young's experiential beauty service "Skin Scan."
Previously, customers had to have their skin photographed and analyzed using dedicated devices at stores. The new service allows users to check their skin condition with a smartphone without visiting a store.
After completing a brief questionnaire on the app, users can take a photo of their face or select an existing photo. AI analyzes skin type as well as pores, pigmentation, hydration, oiliness and wrinkles based on the photo. It recommends care methods for individual skin concerns and related products by category, while also suggesting personalized skin-care routines.
Users can also remeasure their skin condition whenever needed, allowing them to track changes associated with the seasons, lifestyle habits and cosmetics use.
Olive Young introduced Skin Scan at major stores in April 2024 and linked it to its app late last year, allowing customers to view in-store diagnosis results and personalized routines through the app.
Through Sept. 30, customers who complete a mobile skin diagnosis will receive discounts on skin-care products. Those who sign up for reminders for follow-up diagnoses can receive additional Olive points.
Olive Young plans to sequentially add features within the year, including a "Skin Change Report" that tracks changes over time, product recommendations reflecting users' skin-care routines and personal color diagnosis.
An Olive Young official said, "Customers can now continuously monitor changes in their skin through mobile devices in their daily lives and visit stores when they need a more detailed diagnosis, allowing us to provide beauty experiences that move seamlessly between online and offline depending on their needs."
Meanwhile, Olive Young recently completed trademark registration for "Skin Scan."

The company plans to expand and specialize its diagnosis services beyond facial skin to areas including "Scalp" and "Color Fit" for personal color analysis.
