SEOUL, Sept. 2 (Yonhap) -- Singer and actor Kim Min-jong has filed a police complaint against singer MC Mong for allegedly defaming him by spreading false claims that he was involved in illegal gambling.
Kim's legal representatives, law firm Ohkims, said Sept. 2 that they submitted a complaint against MC Mong to Jongno Police Station in Seoul on Sept. 1, seeking an investigation into alleged violations of the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection.
During a livestream on May 18, MC Mong claimed that an illegal gambling group involving celebrities existed and identified Kim Min-jong as one of its members. Kim's side strongly denied the allegation and said it would take legal action.
Kim's side said, "As the allegation spread, the reputation and trust we had built over 38 years since his debut in 1988 were seriously damaged," adding that there had been tangible losses, including the suspension of discussions over an upcoming Hollywood film role and two advertising contracts that were under specific negotiations at the time.
It also stressed, "We will hold him accountable to the end in accordance with the law and principles, without any compromise."
Law firm Ohkims said it plans to cooperate fully with the investigation to establish the facts and sequentially pursue legal measures, including a civil damages lawsuit.
"If we confirm any additional dissemination or repeated posting of false information that is identical or similar in content, we will also pursue further legal measures, including injunctions against the dissemination of false information," the law firm said.
