SEOUL, Jan. 2 (Yonhap) -- The 4K remastered version of the Korean animated film "Leafie: A Hen Into the Wild," originally released in 2011, will be re-released exclusively at Megabox theaters on the 22nd, film distributor Megabox Central announced on Thursday.
Based on the children's book of the same name by author Hwang Sun-mi, the film tells the story of Leafie, a hen who is destined to spend her life laying eggs in a chicken coop, and her journey to find freedom. Along the way, she adopts a discarded duck egg and grows into a mother. The voices of the characters are provided by Moon So-ri, Yoo Seung-ho, and Choi Min-sik.
Upon its release in 2011, the film attracted over 2.2 million viewers, making it the highest-grossing Korean animated film to date.
The remastered version has been created using AI Super-Scaler technology, which enhances video content to the highest quality. According to the distributor, the film now retains the delicate artwork of the original animation, with a quality approaching that of live-action films.
