SEOUL, April 30 (Yonhap) -- Actor Park Dong-bin, known for his supporting roles in films and television dramas, has died at the age of 57, police said Thursday.
According to the Pyeongtaek Police Station in Gyeonggi Province, Park, whose real name was Park Jong-moon, was found dead at around 4:25 p.m. Wednesday at a restaurant in Jangan-dong, Pyeongtaek, that he had been preparing to open. An acquaintance discovered the body and reported it to authorities.
Police said no signs of foul play were found, and no note indicating the circumstances of his death was discovered.
Park made his feature film debut in 1996 with director Kang Je-gyu’s "The Gingko Bed." He later gained recognition through roles in Kang’s films "Shiri" and "Taegukgi."
He also appeared in numerous television dramas, including "Rustic Period," "The Immortal Yi Sun-shin," "God of War," "Sungkyunkwan Scandal," "Great Wife" and "Heaven’s Promise."
In the MBC drama "I Guess I Loved You" (2012–2013), he drew attention for a memorable scene in which his character spits out orange juice upon hearing a shocking revelation about his daughter, earning him the nickname “juice uncle.”
Park married fellow actor Lee Sang-yi in 2020 after meeting on the MBC drama "Enemies from the Past." The couple had one daughter. In 2024, he appeared on "Dr. Oh’s Golden Clinic" and shared that his daughter had undergone heart surgery shortly after birth.
The funeral altar has been set up at Domun Funeral Hall in Anseong, Gyeonggi Province. The funeral procession is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on May 1.
