INCHEON, Aug. 1 (Yonhap) -- The Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival, one of South Korea’s leading music festivals, kicks off its 20th edition on Friday, opening three nights of rock at Songdo Moonlight Festival Park.
This year’s lineup features 58 acts from both Korea and abroad, including the iconic British Britpop band Pulp, American singer-songwriter Beck, Korean American rapper Audrey Nuna, and prominent domestic bands such as Crying Nut and Jaurim.
The most anticipated act is Pulp, making their first appearance in Korea since the band’s formation in 1978. Known for hits such as "Common People" and "Babies" and their candid lyrical style, Pulp will headline the second night of the festival on July 2, performing a mix of classics and tracks from their new release "More," their first in 24 years.
Audrey Nuna will take the stage on the festival’s final day, July 3. She has gained popularity for voicing Mira, a member of the fictional K-pop group Huntress, in the Netflix animated film "K-Pop Demon Hunters."
Beck, an eight-time Grammy winner, will headline the third and final night, marking his first performance in Korea in nine years.
Other international acts include Japanese rock band Asian Kung-Fu Generation and British rapper Little Simz, contributing to the festival’s diverse musical palette.
On the domestic front, Crying Nut, celebrating their 30th anniversary this year, will perform alongside acts like Jaurim, 3rd Line Butterfly, and Nerd Connection. American rock band Deafheaven and British artist Beabadoobee, both of whom had originally been slated to perform, have been replaced by Korean singer Lee Seung-yoon and electro-pop duo Glen Check, respectively.
Winners of the festival’s rookie band competition “Penta Super Rookie,” including grand prize winner Confined White and gold prize recipient Bi Gong Jung, will also take the stage.
First held in 2006, the Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival is organized by the Incheon Metropolitan City and co-hosted by the Incheon Tourism Organization and Gyeonggi Ilbo.
