SEOUL, Aug. 14 (Yonhap) -- The Gyeongju National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage said Thursday it will release a total of 18 episodes of the “Silla at a Glance” video series on its YouTube and Instagram accounts every Thursday through the end of this year.
The short-form videos will offer easy-to-understand explanations of artifacts unearthed from major sites in the Silla cultural sphere, including Wolseong, Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond, Jjoksaem District and Hwangnyongsa Temple Site in Gyeongju.
The first video, released Thursday, will introduce a small clay figurine excavated from the moat surrounding Gyeongju Wolseong. The figurine, revealed to the public in 2017, drew attention for its turban-like feature, with one end hanging down to the right forearm.
Subsequent videos will showcase items such as dice from Donggung and Wolji and “guimyeonwa” roof tiles, which are said to depict goblins, ghosts or dragons.
On Sept. 25, the institute will release a special episode titled “More on Silla,” highlighting relics, excavation findings and research achievements related to Heungnyunsa, believed to be the first Buddhist temple built in Silla.
