SEOUL, April 14 (Yonhap) -- Actress Youn Yuh-jung, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Academy Awards for her performance in "Minari," said that she wants to continue her career as an actress as long as she can memorize the lines.

Youn Yuh-jung made her remarks in an interview with Variety, a U.S. entertainment media.

Throughout her 50-year career, Youn says there's one question that still keeps her up at night. "How will I complete my mission on set?" she asked. "I'm not sure if I can call this loving my work."

"I feel like I'm competing in the Olympics. But really, I'm not that ambitious," the actress said when being mentioned as the leading candidate for the Oscar Best Supporting Actress. "I've been slowing down in my career and choosing whatever I want to do for a friend or for a script, so I'm very content, very happy with my old age."

"I didn't expect the movie to get this much attention from the audience or from critics," Youn said. "It still doesn't feel real to me."

Youn Yuh-jung also mentioned that Lee Issac Chung, the director of the film, "was honest and sincere", which was important as the story of the movie was depicted realistically.

"I was impressed by director Chung's knowledge of Korean cinema and was drawn to his 'warmth' that was felt through the script for 'Minari'," she added. "There's a lot of immigrant stories, but Issac's point of view was a 'level-up' for me."

"We see immigrants [in other movies] as people who are suffering, discriminated against in America, but 'Minari' isn't just about that. It's like a bridge between Korea and America."

"The beauty of this film is that we see how people learn to live with both the American-and Korean-ness," Youn said.
