SEOUL, Feb. 24 (Yonhap) -- Korea Broadcasting System’s “TV Literature Hall” (literal title), which garnered national attention for more than 30 years since the 1980s, will return to the small screens in UHD (Ultra-High Definition) version.
The national broadcaster will broadcast a special program, titled “TV Literature Hall in UHD,” from Mar. 5 in commemoration of its 50th anniversary of public broadcasting, KBS announced Friday.
“TV Literature Hall” was adored and loved by the public by screening a series of modern and contemporary Korean literary works from 1980 to 2012.
The program had various Korean-made literary works, ranging from masterpieces that all Koreans know not only by titles but also plots to relatively recent novels written by writers in the 2000s, adapted into television series.
Among the modern and contemporary pieces of literature written by writers that have become household names, 20 works have been selected based on the views they gathered on KBS’ official YouTube channel “KBS Archive” to be aired in remastered UHD versions.
The very first literature adaptation will be “Wanderer,” originally written by Kim Yoo-jung and starring actress Jung Yoon-hee, who was an iconic figure in the 70s and 80s, with crystal clear images.
This epic masterpiece will be followed by several other legendary adaptations, such as “The Rainy Season” (Yoon Heung-gil), “Cain’s Descendants” (Hwang Soon-won), “Waterwheel” (Na Do-hyang), “Dream” (Lee Kwang-soo), “Potato” (Kim Dong-in), and “A Young Zelkova” (Kang Shin-jae). This relay of legendary works will not only give viewers a glimpse into Korean modern and contemporary literature but also rewind to the days of the youth of all-time favorite veteran actors, including Kim Yeong-cheol, Kim Hye-soo, and Jeong Bo-seok.
