SEOUL, May 19 (Yonhap) – S. Korean singer-songwriter Kwon Jin-won will release the digital single "Mountain Field Wind Forest(translated)" on May 20 along with 14 students from Seoul Institute of the Arts, where Kwon serves as a professor.

This song shows off the sounds of a rock band and string performances combined with traditional Korean instruments, such as yangqin, soguem, kkwaenggwari, drum, and janggu.

The sound of traditional Korean music in the song sometimes raises excitement and suddenly creates a mysterious mood as if looking down at the vast nature.

Kwon introduced during a telephone interview with Yonhap News Agency on May 19, “It is actually a song I made when preparing for the album “MANNAM”(2014), adding, "It was a time when I was obsessed with ‘scholar spirit’ and bought all the collections of Yi Hwang and Yi I.”

Kwon said, "In this song, traditional Korean musical instruments, especially soguem and yangqin, have great charms," adding, "I used yangqin to make it feel like the day dawns, but I've never heard of using this instrument in K-pop. The sounds of soguem as well as kkwaenggwari were well expressed in the song.”

She emphasized, "When listening to the rhythm of traditional Korean musical instrument, even people of the Western countries will be able to relate to its unique 'groove,’” adding, "I am sure that their bodies will feel the excitement."

"I was thinking about what kind of music I should play and suddenly I thought, 'Why is everything surrounded by Western things when I'm actually Korean?' I wanted to know more about our culture and strengthen the identity as a Korean musician."

The song, which was made as a solo song at the time in 2013, became much more abundant with the chorus of 14 students.

The students, who work as a team called "2ONE,” previously drew attention in March by singing the soundtrack “THIS IS ME” for the movie "The Greatest Showman" in collaboration with students majoring in classical music at Seoul National University.

Lee Mu-jin, one of the students who sang together, ranked No. 3 in JTBC's "Sing Again" in 2020 and became a star by releasing various hit songs, such as "Traffic Light.”

Kwon Jin-won said, "Nature and humans are all connected as one," adding, "I hope my wish to take care of everything can be well delivered to the listeners through the song.”
