Chung Myung-whun, Cho Seong-jin and Staatskapelle Dresden successfully performs concert in Lotte Theater

SEOUL March 4 (Yonhap) -- Collaboration between maestro Chung Myung-whun, historical symphony from Germany, Staatskapelle Dresden, and gifted South Korean pianist Cho Seong-jin was marvelous.

All three of significant figures within the scene of Classical music, Chung Myung-whun, Cho Seong-jin and Staatskapelle Dresden provided the audience with unforgettable experience throughout their concert held at Lotte Concert hall on March 3.

To kick off their concert, Pianist Cho Seong-jin alongside Staatskapelle Dresden performed Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto 1 under the lead of Chung Myung-whun. Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto 1 is representative figure within the segment of piano concerto.

With Cho Seong-jin’s significant playing style pianist managed to struck the audience with detailed depiction of Tchaikovsky’s music from the romantic era of classical music.

Staatskapelle Dresden which started off in 1548 as a symphony continued on with is history and majored in royal symphony music for the past 475 years, supported Cho Seong-jin’s piano parts with “Velvet like deep and mesmerizing string and brass section” as pianist addressed throughout the press conference held the day before the concert.

As the third movement of Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto, came to an end, over two thousand of the audiences who filled up the Lotte Concert hall burst into applause and cheered for such amazing performance. After the finale of the third movement, Chung Myung-whun, and Cho Seong-jin gave each other a nice warm hug with big smiles on their faces.

For the anchor track, pianist Cho Seong-jin performed one of the tracks included within his latest album released from the classical music label Deutsche Grammophon “The Handel Project.”

After pianist Cho Seong-jin exited off the stage, the second half of the concert kicked off with conductor Chung Myung-whun and Staatskapelle Dresden’s performance of Schubert’s 8th Symphony “Unfinished” and “The Marksman, The Freeshooter” by Carl Maria Von Weber.

The final piece performed throughout the concert “The Marksman The Freeshooter” is one of the representing tracks of Staatskapelle Dresden. The reason being when Carl Maria Von Weber was working on the piece, he was musical director of Staatskapelle Dresden. Moreover the Opera “The Marksman The Freeshooter” is one of the most performed opera.

Conductor Chung Myung-whun who has been working as the guest conductor of Staatskapelle Dresden which consists of the finest performers within the Europe, for over 10 years, showcased unique interpretation of considerably the most familiar piece to Staatskapelle Dresden by putting stronger emphasis to the sound throughout the concert.

After the concert ended conductor Chung Myung-whun addressed “Staatskapelle Dresden is amazing aren’t they?” showcasing his satisfaction working with such well known group of musicians.

Moreover, conductor stated “There is a special place within my heart for composer Johannes Brahms,” and showcased third movement of Johannes Brahms’ “Symphony No.3 in F Major” as the final anchor piece. With the authentic and mesmerizing sound, audience fell back into the moment.

The second half of the concert showcased spotless synergy created by world class conductor Chung Myung-whun and Staatskapelle Dresden who has been working together for over 10 years.

Staatskapelle Dresden and Chung Myung-whun will be performed a show at the Sejong Art Center on March 2, and continue on with their concert in Incheon Art Center on March 4, Seoul Art Center on March 5 with Cho Seong-jin, and on March 7 and 8 where they plan to showcase Johannes Brahms’ Symphony No 1, 2,3 and 4.
