SEOUL, Aug. 20 (Yonhap) -- Gunil, who recently left the band Xdinary Heroes following a controversy over his remarks and conduct, expressed his position through his legal representative, saying he "wanted to sincerely apologize."

Through attorney Sung Jae-hwan of Juwon Law Firm on Thursday, Gunil said, "I deeply apologize for causing concern to Xdinary Heroes fans and the members," adding, "Regardless of the circumstances, I am sincerely sorry for the disappointment and heartache that fans who have supported me for so long must have felt."

Recently, an online post was uploaded by a person claiming to be Gunil's former girlfriend. The poster alleged that Gunil had used profanity toward fans and released an audio recording as evidence.

JYP Entertainment, which represented Gunil at the time, announced on Aug. 13 that it had decided to terminate his exclusive contract by mutual agreement, saying it had determined that it would be difficult for him to continue team activities. Gunil subsequently left the band.

Gunil said, "I also feel sorry toward the members and have personally conveyed my apology to them." He added, "Although I was under psychological strain at the time due to some online posts and excessive invasions of my privacy, using inappropriate expressions in a private setting was an indisputable mistake that cannot be justified for any reason."

Attorney Sung denied allegations that emerged amid and after the controversy, saying, "It is not true that Gunil habitually and repeatedly used profanity and made disparaging remarks about fans, or that he badmouthed the members or met other people while in a relationship."

Regarding the termination of Gunil's exclusive contract with JYP, Sung said, "Gunil did not voluntarily leave the group or agree to terminate the contract, and it is difficult to view the circumstances as grounds for termination." He added, however, "Gunil does not want to cause fans any greater fatigue over this matter and plans to continue having amicable discussions with the agency."
