SEOUL, Nov. 11 (Yonhap) -- Actors Lee Jae-won and Seo Ji-hye, who stars in Apple TV+'s first Korean-language original series "Dr. Brain," emphasized how human-like charms of each character were well melted into the science fiction mystery show.
In an online interview on Wednesday, the two actors agreed that "Dr. Brain" contains stories on each of the characters' growth despite the sci-fi thriller being based on a cerebral scientist uncovering a murder case.
While Lee plays Hong Nam-il, a fellow researcher of genius brain scientist Se-won (Lee Sun-kyun), Seo takes the role of a detective who tries to figure out the muder case on Se-won's family.
Regardless of Se-won's impassive and cold-hearted personality, Hong Nam-il is the only character who treats Se-won as a human. Although people point fingers at Se-won for always eating alone or not expressing any emotions despite his family's tragedy, Hong supports Se-won and calls him his 'older brother.'
"(Hong Nam-il) takes part in the brain research with Se-won, but his brother-like relationship with the main character is also very important, which is why I tried to carry out both parts together," Lee said. "Among characters with such strong individuality, my character delivers a feeling of universality and acts like a guide for the audience to enter the show."
Lee didn't forget to thank his co-star Lee Sun-kyun for making a comfortable filming atmosphere, saying, "I had to act out my genuine feelings of love and respect for Se-won, and Lee Sun-kyun helped me a lot to successfully shoot that part on set."
If Hong Nam-il is Se-won's internal assistant in the laboratory, Seo's character acts as Se-won's assistant in the outside world. Although detective Choi does not trust Se-won from the beginning, she starts to believe in brain connection little by little. In the first episode, Seo's character does not leave a huge impact on the viewers yet, however later helps resolve the case.
